Emergency Treatment

Doesn’t it seem like dental emergencies always happen at the most inconvenient times? No matter how well you take care of your teeth, at some point you or a member of your family are likely to have a dental emergency that requires immediate attention.

We’re Here When You Need Us

A dental emergency can be very stressful. The last thing you want is to visit a dentist you don't know and who doesn't know anything about you. This is exactly the time when you need to see a friendly, familiar face and professionals you know who already understand your needs.

If your emergency occurs during regular hours, we will make arrangements to get you in as quickly as possible. In most cases we can see you the same day. But emergencies often seem to happen on weekends or after regular business hours. We know how difficult it can be to wait for treatment, especially if the emergency involves your child. You don't have to worry, though – Dr. Luderitz is always available so that you can get the treatment you need when it matters most.

Tips for Handling Emergencies

We will always see you as quickly as possible, but it’s important for you to have an idea how to handle certain emergencies before you get to our office:

  • If you’re an adult and a tooth is knocked out, immediate action makes the difference between losing and keeping the tooth. Keeping the tooth moist is most important, so place it in a glass of milk, water, or even saliva until you get to our office. You can try to very gently place it back in the socket, but don’t force it, and never touch the root itself.
  • For toothaches, rinse the mouth with warm water to clean it out. Use dental floss to gently remove any food particles lodged between teeth. Don’t put aspirin on the tooth – this is an old wives' tale that can actually do more harm than good.
  • If you crack a tooth, use warm water to rinse your mouth and cleanse the area. Place a cold compress on your face to minimize any swelling.
  • Losing a filling or dental crown weakens your tooth, so please contact our office immediately to reduce the possibility of further damage.

We’re here to make sure you and your family always get the best possible dental care, no matter when you need it. If you have an emergency, please contact us as soon as possible at 406-248-7172. A member of our team will make arrangements to get you in to see us, usually the same day. After hours, you can call the same number and you’ll be directed to our emergency contact number.
