Sedation Dentistry

Fear of dental visits means different things to different people. It may be the idea that the smells and sounds of the dental office bring back memories of a bad experience as a child. Or, you may be anxious because you think the treatment will hurt.

We understand that your dental anxiety can make it difficult to get the care you need to keep your mouth healthy. Our goal is to make high-quality dental treatment easy by reducing your level of stress.

Part of helping you conquer your anxiety is providing gentle, compassionate care. We know how your fearful feelings can be overwhelming, and many of us have been there ourselves. Our team is sensitive to your feelings and will do everything to support you and make your dental care as stress-free as possible.

Before we plan any treatment, we will talk to you about your concerns and discuss your sedation options. Together we will choose the type of sedation that is tailored to fit your situation.

General Anesthesia

General anesthesia is not right for everyone, but it is helpful in specific cases. If you are undergoing extensive dental work or other types of sedation aren’t sufficient to conquer your fear, we may suggest general anesthesia so you can “go to sleep” during your procedure.

Dr. Luderitz has privileges at the Northern Rockies Surgery Center, where a licensed anesthesiologist administers general anesthesia in a safe, highly controlled setting. However, we know that in some cases your insurance may not cover outpatient treatment at a hospital. In these cases, Dr. Luderitz works with Dr. Ryan Larsen, a dental anesthesiologist who administers the anesthesia here at our Billings dental office.

Benefits of General Anesthesia

  • By using general anesthesia, patients are able to comfortably undergo complex procedures that require longer time in the dental chair.
  • General anesthesia provides a way for very anxious patients to complete necessary dental work that they have been putting off. Sedation helps them to relax and allows the dentist to perform the procedure that will keep their teeth healthy.
  • Young children under the age of five who have several areas of decay can benefit because all treatment can be completed during one appointment. With general anesthesia, your child will go to sleep. This will keep them comfortable and prevent them from moving around so that we can work most efficiently.

Everyone’s level of dental anxiety is different, and we offer a variety of sedation methods to manage your fear. General anesthesia allows our very anxious patients and patients with more complex needs to receive important treatment safely and easily.
